We're beyond thrilled to debut the cover of Opium6, our latest print creation. Better yet, we're giving all pre-orderers free shipping, so if you order now you'll only have to pay a measly $10 for what will surprise you in sixteen ways, minimum.

Featuring stories by Aimee Bender, Aaron Garretson and Thomas Cooper, non-fiction by Benjamin Percy, an interview with Amanda Lear, poetry by Robin Beth Schaer and Seth Perlow, our Best of Sweet Fancy Moses (.com) tribute, and the winner of the Bookmark Contest, this is one of the more oddball issues to date. Plus, we poke fun at "going green" all while going green (this issue, like all future Opium's, is completely recycled).

Baffled by the cover? Don't be. Here is a very brief FAQ from designer David Barringer:

Q: Note on the cover art, the interior design, and just a general response to the question, "What in great green hell is Opium up to?"

A: Yeah, about that. The cover of Opium's Go Green! Issue 6 shows ancient Egyptians building a rocket to escape a doomed, burnt-up, and wasted planet Earth. We wanted to take the environmental issue as far as we could, which is the ruination of the planet and humanity's need to escape to other planets, and then pull the comedy camera back to a panorama of human history. So it's funny, right, that ancient civilizations were already, like, "Been there, ruined that, couldn't get the damn rocket to work." And we here now are still pretty much spinning our wheels in the mud of that problem. Opium is now Green. Tag, you're green! Green is love.

Sold? We hope. Now skidaddle over to the Opium Store, and pre-order now! Or do yourself (and us) one better, and subscribe!

Todd Zuniga is Opium's founding editor, and the president of Opium for the Arts. His fiction has appeared in print and online. He lives in Brooklyn.

Hey Guys...who won the contest? All of us are VERY curious. Please announce it soon so we can all have pity parties and deal with the rejection together... Just kidding...kinda. Looking forward to the issue, and what's up with this story in the comments section? Hmph, problem with free speech, I guess. Thanks for having a wonderful mag. ~Cicily

We've been sorting out financials for Opium6, so apologies for the delay in announcing the finalists. They'll be announced tomorrow, then we'll feature other 250-word bookmark stories up until Opium's launch on 5.10 in SF. So, check back, or, soon: check your inbox if you submitted!
